      Yep-I asked my good friend, Karathrax, if I could use his name and likeness for my alt Fighter pawn, since she isn’t able to play. We collaborated on the Arisen’s appearance (named “Kara”) as well as Draken. It’s an honor. She knows that should she ever decide TO play, that I will immediately relinquish his name and appearance sliders to her. I’m so glad your recognized him in his new role!! 😍

      I also appreciate the steadiness of pawn inclinations: it makes it far easier to hire whatever Personality type you wish, without worrying about their effects on your pawn; you can use pawn commands far more effectively; enemies you fight or potions you use in battle don’t alter your pawn’s Personality; furthermore, no evidence of “secret timers.”

      Personally I prefer the Hellfire set minus the helm for my Mystic Knight or Fighter Arisen. Same for my Fighter pawn-she wears the Hellfire set without the helm. I also utilize different under armor for my female Fighter pawn or Arisen. This whole set can be gotten through purification of BBI lvl 3 armor. Brett noticed that the armor pieces stats didn’t match what was on the wiki for the WHOLE set. I had all the pieces from 0 stars to Goldforged so I created this video in order to adjust the stats shown on the wiki-they are now corrected there. Brett only had the pieces he shows in his attached video to mine. I also made sure that I had no under armor or weapon equipped as that skews the data for the set.

      It’s a fun game and I’m enjoying the combat. Not worth $60 or $70 worth of combat, though. That extra music track available if you buy Deluxe version? It’s the Masterworks collection PC players could buy in 2016; I thought it was going to be all new music. I felt cheated since I already have that music. You can insert it into the game in place of the DD2 combat music. If you already have the Masterworks music collection, you can’t insert that-I think that extra music is in a special format that allows it to be replaced. It’s called “BGM” music in the menu-greyed out if you didn’t buy the Deluxe version.

    Yeah the voices are a problem because if I make my character look a certain way the voice DOES not match up lol which is precisely why I did not go with Straightfoward inclination on my Warrior pawn and went with Kindhearted instead because it actually fit him lol. Very good video I was unaware how useful the field badges are honestly my pawn has most of the monster badges except like a few. Overall I love the pawn system but I definitely feel there was more passion with the link between the Arisen and the Pawn in the first one and how the could react to certain situations. not sure what it is exactly can't quite put my finger on it just yet despite me having 250 hours or so lol.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      I’m going to bet it’s the voice…I had a lot of cognitive dissonance with my DD1 main and my main pawn here. My alt mage, Shadow-the voice suited her perfectly but then it was the hair…Kate is still Kate-just no Great Gamble. Those things make a huge difference. So I know what you mean.

      @@Gemmalady Quite possibly I don't think any of the voices are bad by any means but I would like to have been able to choose my own voice not predetermined by that specific inclination very strange choice they did on that lol I do think for Fighter/Warrior Straightforward is the way to go but I just cannot jive with it on my pawn so lol. I also hope they add either more voices or the ability to just pick and choose which you would prefer because it's pretty jarring honestly at least when it comes to your character voice not matching up with their face lol

    And yet I still love them. So many systems simplified like you can just buy the dragonforge upgrade on your pawns equipment, there is no need to dragonforge it yourself for them. I've been carefull around the edges from the start in two playthroughs and my pawn never falls of ledges even if i make a stupid mistake and fall down. I look back at her and she is searching for the good route and takes the long way round. Hired pawns do seem to follow her behavior in that regard, but maybe it's just the field badges. When i get interrupted with a battle when they leading me somewhere i just give them a small push after battle and they usually pick it back up again. I hired a pawn that knew where Ulrika was when I was in Melve, I gave her the go command and o boy what a trip.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      Me too. My Fighter pawn is a hoot and my Mage pawn is so sweet-but tough as nails. As for dragonforging-I was doing a blind playthrough and didn’t know that dragonforging wasn’t a thing done by dragons anymore (kind of disappointed in that, lost some motivation I must admit) which then had me toss the whole story out the window for a long time in my search for the Dragonforged. He was disappointing too-instead of a wise sage I got a deranged old man who could do it for me. I’m used to the system now so it’s all good, and happy to see the Dragonforged and Luz help the Arisen out in many regards. Perhaps it’s the voice actor of that first Dragonforged I miss-I would have found the Dragonforged more believable if voiced differently. That’s what comes from spending 12 years playing a game though and I did try to prepare myself for the game changes, that is, as long as I knew pawns were in the equation then the rest was just fluff. Which it was.

    what are your toughts on specializations? initially off the bat i thought Chirugeon sounded amazing but quickly realized it wasn't cut out to be what it intended. Eventually i got to the thought process of - do i want my pawn running the length of the battlefield to give me a healing/anti-debilitaion potion or stay where there are and just heal me/dps the mob? Be interesting to get your view.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      I hired a Chirurgeon pawn to test how it worked. It’s a nice Specialization to have or hire when you are under-leveled for an area or feel you’d like in the Unmoored World-where combat is so engaging. In my opinion, if you are pleased with how it meshes with your Arisen and team, then keep it. It’s much like Forager and Woodland Wordsmith-all are Specializations useful to have if needed, and they don’t interfere with overall gameplay. Make sense? Your pawn has to please YOU first and foremost. Later, as you put in more hours, you may find yourself tinkering but my advice regarding behaviors and personality-combined in this game into PERSONALITY, is if you are happy, and your pawn is doing its job, then by all means stay the course. Your pawn is YOUR boon companion.

  • @ToliG123
    @ToliG123 3 месяца назад

    Great video! I think I like this version of pawns substantially more than DD1. But I do wish some of the old system was still present. The ideal pawn training might just be telling your pawn to watch you. Crucial there’s an On Off switch, so they don’t mimic the arisens kleptomania, or otherwise. Obviously that’s beyond any kind of likelihood. But we can dream. Good to know there doesn’t seem to be a hidden clock to change their attitude/strategy though. Cheers.

    I won't change my calm/Chirurgeon pawn because I don't want to change his voice. Plus he is a thief now and calm makes sense to me. I'm not sure about the climbing and can't compare with others, but he has fighter, archer, thief augments and one augment says "scales monsters and cliffs faster," and he has the draw and quarter skill equipped which is a climbing skill too. I know he always climbs on big monsters - especially ones that count like golem, titan, beam dragons and such. He has caught me falling, but I don't fall much. I was pretty surprised when I fell off a griffin that seemed miles away and he caught me. I knew that I would definitely need a wake stone after that fall- but nope! I did have to make him "wait" below the pillar at hot springs to catch me and it was multiple times. I was after a seeker token high up on a pillar and kept screwing it up. :) But- honestly I don't fall much so have little experience with who catches more often.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      I get you. I rarely fall too. I have fallen off a Griffon (trying to get trophy for “Re-Griffoning haha) and yep that first time a Lesser Dragon shook me off…oh and the time a damn harpy grabbed me. Both times my Kindhearted Mage caught me-third time my Straightforward Fighter caught me. But that equals the times I was grabbed by harpies in Bluemoon Tower in DDDA and caught each time (4K hours on my main on console). It’s just good to know they have the ability, I think, and that we haven’t lost that moveset from pawns. I thought if I brought it up more people would begin to take notice that yes, indeed they will do it. As long as they’re not busy themselves of course. My Thief pawn does climb-not every monster but she does, as does my Fighter. I haven’t observed my Mage climbing but HAVE seen my Calm Archer-as well as a friend’s Calm Archer-climb. It is very rare. Point is-we no longer have to worry about it being a ‘thing’ like it was in DDDA. Cuz it sure was. One other funny thing I saw-two Calm personalities, one a mage, the other a Sorc-levitated to the back/top of a monster where they were promptly tossed, bludgeoned, stomped on, then died. Oof For the record I never did and myself and the other two pawns killed the damn Armored Cyclops. I was nosing around Batahl at level 20 hahaha

Did I teach him that!? lol

    there are some that i disagree with the inclination part, a kindhearted pawn thats mage will hug you if you are dmg or low health over fighting and will drop what their doing to go to where you are and heal you if you dont have the range heal equipped on them and is inclined to use support skills over dps skills if available on other vocations. a calm pawn is literally called a climber and a flying pawn on sorc as it will climb alot compared to other inclinations on all vocations especially on max badge and if its on a sorc it will fly alot.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      Ummm no I disagree. Any Pawn will call out when Blades of the Pyre backfires (so to speak) but my Kindhearted Mage can’t insta-stop an animation to run over to me or heal me. Are there times during an animation you can stop casting? Yes but there are also times you are fully committed and the same goes for pawns. My Straightforward Fighter (who also played Warrior for lots of levels) only climbs on occasion. I can count on two fingers the times the two Calm Archer pawns have climbed to shoot down at an enemy-and I watch very very closely. Calm Sorcs and Mages tend to levitate more often than Kindhearted ones but-Calm pawns are far more focused on defensive Strats than offensive ones so-are they levitating to get out of the way? But get caught out? And those Archers? They did climb but I don’t characterize Calm as climbers no matter what you say. As far as “hugs” all my pawns get offered to the Sphinx and I high five, praise etc but since I don’t die that often-1 death in 189 hours on my first account 0 deaths on the other four with my second account nigh on 100 hours-maybe I don’t need them? Nor do I expect companions from the Rift (look up their origins) to behave that way.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      @@vahngaming7107 really. Did you play DDDA? Do any testing? The first time around long ago-people interested in pawn inclinations had some anecdotal data but most of it proved invalid. I kept a notebook on all my rentals and observations-mostly because of how the OPSC worked but there was no hard data. We knew that taking daggers away from Rangers didn’t work, and taking bows away from Striders didn’t work-but we couldn’t prove anything. No one knew about the secret timers at all, and really it wasn’t a big deal until Dark Arisen released and odd behaviors popped up out of no where. On top of that people blamed the incorrect items-like Spring Water-for pawns turning Nexus, for example. We already knew that overuse of pawn commands influenced inclinations, as did hired pawns, and we knew that pawns learned from other pawns and some, I repeat some behaviors were the result of behaviors learned while in another world. But how this mechanism really worked was the result of a deep look at the save not possible until the game (and the tools to decode) came out on PC. It took Ghost of Kirin’s in-depth analysis to put most of it together (along with 3 other players). However it was a document rather than in video format. Then another HUGE content creator made a breakthrough regarding climbing behavior(s) and the classification of enemies. After that, it was rather easy to manipulate the pawn’s inclinations via testing, put it in video format, look at the save file, and even watch it happen in real time. For this game, operating under a different engine, with different priorities and two different behavior AI’s-possible in some respects by “advances” we did gain pawns with good pathfinding skills. Some vocations are still very good at their jobs-others are just meh, and still others are slow as before just look flashier ala DMCV style. If you played that you’d recognize some of the takeaways: for example showing the player in a preview window just what a skill is. Although if they went that far why not let us test against an enemy like you could in DMCV? I digress. Anecdotes are well and good, but you must be dispassionate. You have to stand back and watch the pawns operate without your influence and also account for play styles not your own. That means, for me, standing back and playing a vocation that’s more passive and can quickly react-should the need arise-to defend oneself while observing. Just some food for thought.

    There's only 2 classes I used for my pawn and one just to get buffs. Fighter and warrior. Thief for the buffs. She stays fighter mostly and its for the launch. As a warrior getting that quick lunch to the weak spots is invaluable. She was a calm churigen on my first play but I changed her to a kindhearted churigen and the minor improvements to healing and launching are night and day. Also I don't use mages. Just 1 extra archer or fighter and archer. Potions make for a old stool rpg feel. Try it if you're bored. As a calm she was good at healing but only ever launched near the end of a battle. Kind has everything calm had but to lunch I just press go with a 70% success rate. I need to test but it seems each personality was made for a specific specialisation

    Yeah the pawns need more development they dsaid pawns were the 1st thing the Devs worked on so no way you will hear all they have to say in the 1st 45 levels the pawns would be so much better received if each of the 4 voices had 3 - 6 different ways of speaking about things.

    • @Gemmalady

      I would agree that I haven't heard all they have to say BUT my main is level 163, my alt Fighter is level 118, my alt mage is level 111, and my alt Ranger is level 75. There are some funny statements my male Fighter pawn says about the storyline that my female main pawn never said. So that much is true. Whether or not it is gender + Personality related I don't know, but Draken definitely hinted there was along with a bit of a smarmy chuckle. I would have loved more voice choices--I am going to assume it was too much of a bother, or something. I remember watching the video of Kento Kinoshito talking about Personalities and voices, and I thought, "oh no, this guy doesn't get it, AT ALL." We want smarter pawns, yes. It's nice we don't have to think as much about how enemies directly or indirectly influence my pawn's behavior, or how pawns I hire affect my pawn, or what potions I use that may or may not affect my pawn. But, I still feel like somehow, they didn't trust me to take care of my pawn, and that was insulting. In DDDA, pawns were your ally--they only got smarter with each enemy they encountered. In DD2, it is like I said, after one encounter they will say the same thing they say after 30 (or in Barahir, Draken, and Shadow's case, let alone Kate's) encounters. Aren't you going to warn me about the Snake's head or Goat's head on a Chimera/Gorchimera? What about Garm? What--no comment on how to use fire on a Griffin? I know what they are weak to but I would like to hear that my pawn does too.

      @@Gemmalady well yeah there is plenty Dialog I may have not heard but I'm speaking on the common voice lines like there is a "ladder here" maybe the pawn could say I wonder what it leads to? Or have you climbed it¿ etx etx stuffs they knew players would come across even the pawn history and scars maybe they could comment on the pawn not having scars and being high level or if the pawn affinity is high or low even as is the game is good but woth more time I feel it could have been so much better. Sadly they will spend more time working on optimization I'm almost sure that the pawn AI was why we recived so few enemies imagine pawns helping you fight in elden ring it would be a much larger game and the AI might get confused. xD

    My pawn (Granny Smith) in my first playthrough was kindhearted. I maxed out every vocation in my first run and finally settled on a Warrior for her. One thing I thought was weird, was She kept getting winded. I gave her Arc of Might and Mountain Breaker, but she never seemed like she used them that much. Regardless, I had to keep cheering her up during battles. My main pawn is now a mage and I have him as calm, with Celestial Paean, Argent Succor, High Halidom, and Celerity, and he barely uses Paean. I rarely if ever need to cheer him.

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      The Arc Skills in DDDA didn't work out all that well, if at all, in DDDA for pawns. Mountain Breaker is a type of Arc skill, in a way. It works best when the pawn targets a weak spot--and therein lies the rub. Pawns don't call out weak spots anymore--which to me means they don't really know them. They talk in generalities, and I did cite the examples where pawns talk about some enemies, but...I expected far more this time. There are other, similar skills to ones from DDDA, BUT again, there is no counter or offset that allows the pawn to recover their stamina or health if they use them, so they either don't or won't as a result. I do note pawns will almost always use health items, but rarely stamina ones--my Archer pawn does on occasion, but my disappointment in that vocation for pawns is there, nonetheless. Ah, Celestial Paean--some pawns will collapse after its use (in fact 3 of the pawns I hired did so), while others do not (Nihil's and mine). That is a question to ponder, for sure. I deduced that I didn't really need or want that skill on my pawn--you can see the range of skills Shadow has (buff, debuff and two attack skills) which works out quite well for my Thief Arisen. When I take my magnifying glass to each class for pawns, I will have more to say on the subject. They will use Panacea, but then, there you are against the Medusa and pawns may or may not use Malleating Potion when gazed upon, or even Panacea! Like, wow. Pawns were much 'smarter' in that regards compared to the pawns in DD2. This video was commenting on the positives--I do plan on going over the downside of what I have observed.

    The video is perfectly organized. Very well done Gemma. I started Nilly as a Thief with Straightforward until I saw the Mage speed and stamina buffs, then she became Mage. After realising those speed and stamina buffs are not beneficial I gave Nilly the Fighter's way. And she's been a straightforward Fighter for 90% I do feel we are limited a bit with our pawn this time around. Less character, less individualism. She's got all the Monster badges. I never camp so she has no field badges. It's different here in 2. It's ok, I just feel less attached to the pawns. I'm missing that connection I felt in Dogma1

    Thank you for this video Gemma! Very helpful! I think locking voices with certain inclinations and only giving you very limited choices to change them with the AoM is a terrible choice and a step back from the Pawn creation of the first game. Also i'm curious what do you think that there are no more secondary or third inclanations? Do you think it's better? Or do you think that there is still a hidden (secondary) inclination of the previous inclination our Pawn has used?

    • @Gemmalady
      @Gemmalady 3 месяца назад

      Thus far, I haven't noted secondary or tertiary personality traits. Note I am being careful in calling them PERSONALITY traits rather than inclinations. If they are Straighforward, then they engage any enemy as you explore the open world--even when you are clearly moving forward towards another objective perhaps. I am sure you have noted that those types will say something along the lines of, "Leaving so soon?" Oh, my dearest pawn, we are heading towards that lovely dragon over there, leave the nice goblins that are not in our direct line alone, please. And while one pawn may take the lead in heading you to an objective--doesn't matter the personality--then you have probably seen the Straightforward types fall back from being right up front, but not too far behind. Even Kindhearted pawns will take the lead even without an objective--although mostly I have noted that Kindhearted are a step behind, Calm can be anywhere in relation to you, and Simple will range quite a ways out. On that note, Simple is pretty good early on when you need any and everything to sell or hoard, since one doesn't know exactly what monster parts are needed for upgrades. But it got pretty tiresome (at least for me) to micromanage them, when we already have so much more to micromanage, at first. And, I am a first class hoarder, anyway!! Anyone doing a deep dive into damage values, or pawn personalities will need far more time to get the theories and insights needed than just 300 hours. I didn't start into my deep analysis of DDDA until I had almost 3K hours on my main account (along with the same value I had racked up on the PS3, which given the fact that all I had was anecdotal data). I will play far more, obviously. I do love many aspects of the game.

    This is why obfuscation of actual game AI and "learning" mechanics in games is absolutely annoying these days. You'll have developers suggest companions will learn and grow based on what they have "observed," yet once people do the digging, it's pretty clear that all of that was just hot air. I can't believe they outright regressed this for DD2, the supposed "true launch of DD1" or whatever it was billed as. I've spent many hundreds of hours in it and have greatly enjoyed myself, but I do not appreciate being gaslit into investing more time/interest/effort into a game and its systems because it was erroneously touted as being more involved than it actually is. It just feels deceptive on Capcom's part. I ran into similar annoyances with a game and its sequel on PC called The Forest and Sons of the Forest: despite not only all of the developer's claims, as well as numerous content creators and journalist's accounts, enemy behavior was quite clearly remarkably simple, as was the newly added companion characters in the sequel. I'm just tired of the bald face lying and just assume that dev teams are full of S and most creators in the first few weeks of a release absolutely have no idea what they're talking about.

      Couldn’t have said it better-I wondered how they would improve on the pawn system from DDDA, when it was announced as part of the marketing for 2. Imagine my dismay when it seemed that veterans got “Pawns for Dummies.” I’m glad the bodybag era is gone but for me pawns are all about Style over Substance. Have a pawn that looks like a celebrity or video game character? OMG!!!! Doesn’t matter if they are awful, all that matters is “Hearts.” What’s in a name? More Sphinx Mothers, Fathers, or Parents-again, all about the style. Just give me that Heart or Thumbs Up to validate me. (I’m being sarcastic here). I’ve lost a couple friends over heated discussions about how I truly have observed that the pawn system has been oversimplified. But, it has. My ruthless main pawn from 1 has been over-simplified-I’ve gotten used to the chipper version but-the terse, confident, pawn that I watched solo enemies in 1 is just a caricature of herself in 2. More to say in Part 2 of my introspection.

    I love the points you bring up. I have a simple pawn and thought I've changed their vocations and skills many times, I still kept their voice and inclination the same throughout the whole game. I just don't see any of the other voice matching the pawn I created which is one of the things that bothers me, apart from the missing hairstyles. I really like the existence of pawn IDs since its so much easier to share pawns now compared to DD:DA. One thing I really liked from DD:DA was training your pawn and maintaining their inclination with potions, but the way it is in the second game is much more friendly for newer players, and admittedly much less effort required on the player to make a good, useful pawn so I'm not complaining, just something I missed. I actually didn't know that's how pawn badges worked, I've just been making my pawn's vocation complement mine without worrying about what augments to get for them from other vocations, just giving them gear for their vocation. One thing I've heard about DD2 is that if you create a new game, the old pawn can actually stay in the rift, but now its just in limbo without its arisen, and with no changes to be made. So while I like that you can hire your own old pawns, I hate to abandon them in the rift, which is why I haven't started a new game yet.

      Hi! When you go to NG+ it functions exactly like the first game-your pawn, items, etc all go with you. You do lose items out of your inventory. For example specific quest items-like letters of passage, for example. Also all Portcrystals are removed. As to the duplicate pawns from starting New Game (not NG+) one friend had at least 10 or 15 but I noted after the last update he doesn’t anymore. Just the one. My theory is all the shouting from brand new players to the franchise (screaming, more like) had the devs add New Game without thinking it through or having a plan like we had in DDDA. They added the feature but forgot about those players who have 14 New Game restarts. I’m sure that got fixed or will be fixed in the future BUT-too bad for those who thought they’d get their old pawn back with Badges done at level 1 (I’m being sarcastic I don’t feel bad for people who tried to use/abuse the system like in DDDA). Def get augments from other vocations for your pawn-they aren’t multiplicative only additive this time though. Makes sense when you can only have one (meaning no stacking of them like in DDDA then it multiplying when doing damage).

      Oh boy I guess you just don’t understand how Dogma works, then. Most people hire their friends’ pawns. Until or if they create their own alts. People are always asking for RC so that they can purify BBI items. This method is a very fast way to get them RC-for a level 200 pawn (a friend’s pawn, let’s say) takes about 5 rounds of defeating Death. By the way it works the same for any of a player’s alt accounts as well.
